the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Bashkortostan, is situated
on the western side of the Ural mountain range, at the confluence of the
Ufa and Belaya rivers and has 1.1 million inhabitants. The city which had
only 265,000 inhabitants in 1956 has grown rapidly due to the important
oil industry in the area. The city which merged with its northern neighbour
Chernikovsk has a 40 km north-south and a 15 km east-west extension .
That's what almost everybody knows .-)) !
What would you
tell and show to your foreign friends if they came to visit your city?-
Ufa -The Capital of Bashkortostan
The city is situated on
the right bank of the Belaya river. Ufa was founded as a Russian fortress
in 1574 and only in 1865 it officially became a town. In that time Ufa
was a typical medieval town lieing on a high hill. The main building of
the town was a Smolensky church with belfry. In the course of the years
Ufa has changed greatly. Present day Ufa is a large industrial, scientific
and cultural center of a Sovereign State with the population over one million.
There are lots of nations in our city: Russian, Bashkirs, Tatars, Ukraines,
Vietnamese, and etc. So you can see different religiuos institutions here.
For example:
Russian
church and Moslem
mosque.
Over two hundred
industrial enterprises supply the country with the oil products, mining
equipment, furniture, chemical products, building material. Here is situated
one of the most biggest plant of Russia where lots of different motors
are built.
Nowdays it is a
beautiful and attractive city with tree-lined streets, fine monuments.
There are 8 higher educational universities, 35 places of culture, 7 cinemas,
9 stadions, the Sport's Palace. Ufa has the State Opra and Balley house,
The Academic Drama Theatre, The Russian Drama Theatre< the Circus<
the State Puppet Theatre, the Bashkir State Felarmonic Society with the
famous folk-dance compamy which toured many countries of the world.I would
show the most attractive and famouse places to my foregn friends. I would
begin with Lenin street (it is the main street in our city) and show Valedi
National Library whre you can find rare books. Then I would show the Medical
University where future doctors are trained. After that we would stop near
the State University of Arts that trains future singers, musicians, artists,
actors. just in front of it there is the State Opera
and
Balley House.
It has become the tradition to hold there Aksakov and Chalapin festivals (classical music).
It's impossible
to image Ufa without the State Art Gallery named after Nesterov, the outstanding
Russian painter who spent his early years in Ufa. Finally we can go to
the most attractive and exiting place of our city where the monument to
Salavat Ulaev
is
situated.
From this place my friends can observe the magnificent scenery of Belaya river, the bridges over it and a beautiful nature around.

The State Nesterov Art Museum
There are not many museums in Ufa but they are very popular with the public. You can do there to see new exhibitions, to learn something new about artists, their life and history, to enjoy their creations.
The State Nesterov Art Museum is one of the best-known picture museum
in our republic. It takes its name from its founder Michael Nesterov
who was the symbol of Russian spirituality and poetry in art. He was born
in Ufa in 1862. Nesterov spent his childhood here. Being an outstanding
painter, he was creating many of his famous pictures. These were the days
filling of hard work and dialog with the parents. The painter dreamed to
make an art gallery in Ufa and donated 102 pictures of different Russian
artists for Ufa. This collection became the foundation of the future museum.
Now you can find here the sculpture, a collection of old Russian icons,
works of Shishkin, Surikov, Repin.
Nesterov was a brilliant landscape
painter
and
at the same time an excellent portraitist
.
The main idea of his creation is the interaction of his hero's mentality
and the spiritual nature
.
Nesterov believed that God come to the rescue for the poor people. The
whole set of his pictures are devoted to Christ.
Practically all his works are excellent from the technical point of
view - the colours, the composition. We are proud that Nesterov is our
brother.
